Uniform
Lower School
Please put the student’s full name on everything!
No nail polish, makeup, or jewelry except quiet watches, stud pierced earrings, and religious necklaces.
Required
Jumper
Designated style. Appropriate length is at or just below the knees.
Leggings
Dark green, footless, ankle-length leggings to be worn under jumpers in colder weather. Available at Mills (please select forest green), on Amazon (please search for Stretch is Comfort brand and select hunter green), the Clothing Nook, or Beam and Barre (please select dark green) in Cos Cob (241 E. Putnam Ave.).
Shorts
Forest green shorts (Mills or GA school store). They can be legging-style or gym-style.
Socks
White knee socks or short fold-over socks. Groups I-IV may also wear short/tennis socks. No socks with any trim or accessories.
Shirt
Any white collared blouse, white shirt, or white turtleneck (no color trim, no design). A white, long-sleeved GA shirt is required for formal occasions (concerts, all-school assemblies, etc.).
Shoes
Groups I-IV must wear primarily white athletic shoes (with minimal trim). Otherwise, beige, brown, black, or navy blue rubber-soled Merrell-type shoes will be permitted. No sneakers with flashing lights. White shoelaces only.
PC & CC should wear white sneakers with Velcro fasteners. Merrell-type shoes are not allowed in PC/CC.
Snow/rain boots may be worn as weather dictates, but white sneakers or Merrells (for Groups I-IV) are still expected to be worn throughout the day in the classroom.

Sweaters
Hunter green, yellow, navy, or white cardigans
Sweatpants
Plain gray or gray GA sweatpants (sold at school store); uniform-approved Book Fair sweatpants. Shorts must be worn underneath.
Fleece Jackets
Navy GA available at school store. Green GA is permitted if you already own one.
Sweatshirts
Hunter or gray GA sweatshirt (sold at Mills or school store). Uniform-approved Book Fair sweatshirts.
Physical Education
For PE classes, students remove their jumpers and wear their white uniform shirts and shorts/leggings. Girls are expected to wear white cross-training or court sneakers with minimal trim for every PE class. Running shoes or Merrells are not allowed as neither has proper lateral support.

Mouth/shin guards are required for Groups III-IV only (junior-sized).
Dance
Middle School
Please put the student’s full name on everything!
- No visible makeup
- Hair: No more than 1/4 of one’s head may be dramatically altered (brightly-colored dye, shaved, etc.). Students are encouraged to speak to Ms. Montgelas with questions or proposals ahead of time.

Kilt
Length must extend below fingertips when arms are fully extended at one’s side.
Khaki Pants
Pants may be any shade of khaki and any style except cargo; no denim or spandex.
Shirt
Each girl needs at least one class color GA polo for perfect uniform days. On non-class color days, she may wear a gray, green, black, or white GA T-shirt, or a GA logo uniform polo.
Shorts
Girls should wear green, gray, or black GA athletic shorts under kilts.
Socks
If visible above the ankle, solid colors only.
Sweatshirt or Jacket
Please keep a labeled green, gray, or white GA sweatshirt or jacket at school at all times to be prepared for outdoors.

Students must wear non-marking athletic sneakers with good arch and lateral support for PE/athletics. Cross-trainers or court sneakers are strongly recommended as they may be used throughout the year in various sports. Canvas sneakers (e.g. Keds, Converse) are not permitted for PE and athletics. Nike Frees are not recommended.

Additional Gear
- Mouth guards are required for field hockey and lacrosse; they are available in the school store or athletic office for $2
- Goggles are required for field hockey, lacrosse, and squash and are provided by GA.
- Shin guards are required for field hockey and soccer; they are available in the school store
- Hockey equipment is required for ice hockey.
Groups VII-VIII
Hunter green sports kilt (available from GA athletic office) and cleats or cross-trainers are required for field sports. Hunter green mesh shorts may be required for some teams. Coaches will provide guidance at the beginning of each season.
Dance
Groups V-VII
Leotards, dance/yoga tops, fitted tank tops or T-shirts, leggings, shorts, Spandex shorts, and jazz pants are all appropriate. All shirts and tops must cover the abdomen with arms raised.
Group VIII
Comfortable clothing that does not inhibit movement and still fits well enough to highlight movement; no kilts or GA polos
Civvies
On occasion the Middle School declares “civvies” or free-dress days when students may elect to wear non-uniform clothing. While some civvies days specify colors or themes, on all civvies days the girls are expected to dress modestly, consider the weather, and be prepared to change into PE attire as necessary. Flip-flops, sandals, and slippers are not permitted.
Upper School
Everyday Wear
Students may wear the following colored polo shirts with a kilt or khaki pants according to their class:
Group IX: white, black, or yellow
Group X: white, black, yellow, or hunter green
Group XI: white, black, yellow, hunter green, or navy blue
Group XII: white, black, yellow, hunter green, navy blue, or red
All US students may wear any GA shirt, GA sweater, or GA sweatshirt sold in the school store or by a GA team or organization (eg: athletic gear flash sales, etc.).

Seniors Only

Clothing Nook
The Clothing Nook offers gently-used GA uniform items and school spirit wear at very modest prices and is an important part of GA’s sustainability efforts. There are two Nook locations, one in the Wallace Performing Arts Center (PAC) and another for PC-Group IV in the LS conference room.
