Though opening night is two months away, it will pass in a flash for the cast, crew, musicians, dancers, and directors of the Upper School musical, Pippin. The play takes audiences on a journey with a young prince, Pippin, who is seeking something more in life. Along the way he encounters a group of traveling performers who seek to guide him on his quest—and there lies the twist—are they helping or harming?
Play Director Brian Borowka, and Musical Director and Conductor Erica McCants, collaborated in making the play selection, a process Mr. Borowka described as “quite elaborate.” “We look for a play that can showcase our students and features girls in the cast,” he said. “We also look for family friendly shows that appeal to all ages, but are recent enough that the cast is excited about it.” Both directors also have a personal connection to Pippin as they were involved with the play when they were students.
The music and lyrics of Pippin, by Stephen Schwartz of Wicked fame, highlight funny moments and keep the pace lighthearted and upbeat, while connecting to the deeper message of the play. Mr. Borowka said, “It’s a meaningful show about finding what you want to do with your life. This will resonate with audiences, in particular our students.”
Mark you calendars now for Pippin, a musical the entire family will enjoy.
Performances take place November 20- 22 at 7PM in Massey Theatre.
