GA's top 4 finish in the O'Day qualifier held at Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich this past Saturday earned the team its first opportunity to compete for the George O'Day Trophy, also known as the NESAA Fleet Racing Championship. The finals, held at Tabor Academy in Marion, MA, saw the best 17 crews on the water from the previous day's qualifiers held in Greenwich, Newport, RI and Portland, ME (49 schools in total).
This was the first time the Gators made it to the finals where the only other girls' team was Newtown Country Day. GA was four points out of a top 10 finish behind Barnstable High School. Competing as skipper in the A Division was senior Ashton B. whose crew alternated between classmate Alina P. and Group X's Lilly S. Skippering in the B Division was Group X's Grace A. with crew and classmate Mahika J.
The Gators are back on the water this coming weekend for the CT Championships this Saturday at Coast Guard followed by the Herreshoff Qualifier at Hotchkiss on Sunday.
