From the Head of School
Since 1827, Greenwich Academy has provided an ideal balance of a character-based education within the context of an extraordinary academic environment. A leader in girls’ education, GA sets a high bar in academics, athletics, arts, and service leadership—and GA girls consistently exceed expectations. Fueled by our motto, Toward the Building of Character, our girls understand that choosing to do the right thing is a vital prerequisite to achieving success.
Whether proudly representing our school on a national stage or joyfully participating in one of our cherished traditions, GA girls feel a profound connection to their school. Relationships are at the core of the GA experience—deep friendships with their classmates and meaningful ties to their teachers. As one Upper School girl told me, “Teachers at GA are so important to the students because they demonstrate integrity and honesty. Having such close relationships with our teachers helps us to develop character and makes us want to learn.”
The opportunities for learning and growth at Greenwich Academy are unparalleled. Our college-age alumnae routinely cite our rigorous liberal arts curriculum as preparing them to write and think critically at a level far exceeding their peers. We also challenge the girls to develop the skills necessary to compete in a global marketplace that rewards those who take calculated risks with confidence; from developing their technical skills in our Engineering and Design Lab to conducting Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) with the University of Pennsylvania, GA girls know no bounds to their learning and their ambitions.
As a recent graduate shared with me, “Over the course of my GA career, I have ventured into many unfamiliar places. GA has taught me that there are few things that I cannot do. Ask Dr. Decker if you can do a research project and a lab bench is set up the next day. Want to start a new club? Create an all-school event? There will always be someone who says, ‘You should try.’ I have dared to pursue my dreams because my teachers and coaches share my enthusiasm. They believe in me; I believe in myself. There is nothing to stop me, because this is what I have been taught and what I myself have proven.”
We welcome you to venture into the world of today’s GA. Onward!
