Drop-off & Pickup
Cancellations & Adjusted Openings/Dismissals
Please note: GA follows the Town of Greenwich in determining weather-related school closings, early dismissals, and delayed openings. For Wednesdays only, if TOG calls for a one-hour delay, GA will remain on our normal Wednesday delayed open. If TOG calls for a two-hour delay, GA will delay opening for an additional hour. This applies to all buses and shuttles.

LS Drop-off & Pickup
The Lower School parking lot is typically very busy for the first two weeks of school as new families familiarize themselves with the way cars line up for drop-off and pickup. There are approximately 290 girls coming and going each day from the Lower School entrance, so drivers following the same game plan makes the process run more smoothly. Please note that once Serendipity and Friday Afters start in the third week, there is less congestion at pickup.
Lower school girls are dropped at the Lower School entrance by 7:45 AM so that they are ready to start their day at 8:00 AM. Parents should not get out of their cars at the Lower School entrance. The line moves quickly and there is no differentiation between grades—just follow the line as you enter off North Maple. If you are running late you can always park in the lot and walk your daughter across the crosswalk. For safety reasons girls should never walk in the parking lot unaccompanied.
The LS parking lot is a no cell phone zone.
Please place the grade level stickers you receive in the mail in August to the lower left side of your rear window. These stickers are meant to inform other drivers which class dismissal line you are in. If you need additional stickers, simply request them from the LS office. (Cars without stickers can cause confusion.)
Group I girls are dismissed first (2:50 PM Mon-Thu, 11:40 AM Fri), so arriving early for Group I is fine. If you are the first car to arrive, please drive around the parking lot to the LS entrance, and turn off your vehicle to wait. All other cars follow behind.
Groups II-IV pick up in successive intervals after Group I and will line up in the parking lot to await their dismissal time. Please note: You should pass any cars with stickers from a higher grade level, as higher grades have later dismissals. Please inform anyone picking up your child of these general pickup line procedures.
Group IV cars may pass any vehicles without grade level stickers at 3:20 PM, since MS does not use stickers and Groups V/VI begin dismissal at 3:35 PM.
Change of Departure Notes
Please be sure to send in a change of departure note with your daughter to school in the morning if she will be picked up by anyone not among your emergency contacts. Change of departure pads (pink for PC-Group I, white for Groups II-IV) will be distributed at the GAPA parent meetings in early September, or you may request them from the LS office. Pink departure notes need to come from both parties.
Vehicle stickers and visor tags allow teachers to identify vehicles quickly and keep the carpool line moving speedily.
Two new grade-level stickers will be included in the welcome letter students receive from their teachers before the start of school.
Grade-level stickers should be displayed on the left rear windshield of all vehicles that are involved in pickup every day. Cars in the pickup line should pass any cars with stickers from a higher grade level, as higher grades have a later dismissal. Please inform anyone picking up your child of these general pickup line procedures.
Additional vehicle stickers may be picked up in the LS Office the week before the start of school.
New families will receive two visor tags at orientation or on the first day of school for their continued use during their years in the Lower School. Returning students should use their visor tags from last year.
Additional visor tags are not provided by the school. They must be purchased through AlphaGraphics (203.625.0000). The charge for each additional tag is approximately $15. This amount must be paid directly to AlphaGraphics and may not be billed to your school billing account. Alternatively, you can make your own sign!
