Center for Public Purpose

Institute for Public Purpose

This spring trip to Washington, D.C., is essentially a lab course for citizenship, service, and participatory democracy. Every year accepted sophomores spend a divided week in the nation’s capital. The first half focuses on the apparatus of government, and students go on learning tours to places like Congress and the Supreme Court, and meet with government-adjacent professionals such as journalists, attorneys, and administrators. The second half is devoted to service. Working with local grassroots nonprofits, girls take a deep dive into homelessness and poverty advocacy and outreach, cleaning, serving, and practicing fellowship. Now in its second year, the IPP is becoming a cornerstone of GA’s character education and experience.
