In coordination with the CAIS commitment to enhancing STEM initiatives, Greenwich Academy is hosting its third annual ROBOnanza! on Saturday, February 25, 2012, from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. This robotics exposition is open to students of all ages who share an interest in robotics. At this exposition, students can showcase their skills and express their creativity in a variety of ways. There are three levels of friendly competition, as well as a showcase arena where the GA FIRST competition teams will be giving demonstrations of their complex robots. The entry fee is $125 per school, club or team. The fee includes registration and the following services at the event:
- All practice courses and playing field supplies
- Designated competition spaces
- Electricity at each team pit area (tables)
- Wireless Internet access
- Pit tables and exhibition space for RoboShowcase bots
- Snacks and drinks for all participants (students and coaches)
- Coaches continental brunch and coffee (Coaches Corner)
- Completion certificate to track progress throughout competition
- Commemorative item for each participant
- Award/Trophy (as applicable)
GUIDELINES
The rules for each level will vary between competition areas. Please see each category for specific rules and course constructions. However, here are some general guidelines:
- There is no limit on the number of robots entered per school/club/team
- Students of any age may participate in any level event
- Teams many participate in as many levels of competitions as they choose; check the schedule to ensure times of chosen events do not conflict
- There will be various awards given for different age categories within each level of competition
- Robots must be RCX or NXT for all areas except RoboShowcase
- Any programming language may be used in all areas
- All robots must be completely autonomous in all levels of play except for RoboShowcase.
- Remote controlled robots are permitted in RoboShowcase arena only
- A maximum of one award/trophy will be given to a student team/robot (Robo-Bowling excluded) in order to promote "Gracious Professionalism" (TM) and "Coopertition" (TM)
"Gracious Professionalism" (TM) and "Coopertition" (TM) are copywrited phrases by F.I.R.S.T.
