 | Dear Prospective Families,
As you search for an independent school for your daughter, we invite you to learn more about Greenwich Academy.
The philosophy that unifies and propels our educational commitment is best expressed in our school motto, "Toward the Building of Character." GA is dedicated to recognizing individual student achievement, building leadership capabilities and establishing a vibrant academic community.
GA girls are exposed to a rigorous curriculum that is not only rich with opportunities, but also flexible in design. Outside speakers, artists-in-residence, assemblies, field trips, international study programs and finally, in Upper School, independent study projects enrich the GA experience. Recently, our Lower School chess team placed first in the 10-and-under division of the All-Girls National Chess Championship. Not bad for our first year! This year, the Middle School hosted its first RoboExpo competition, allowing students to showcase their skills and projects in robotics and engineering. Further, the Upper School launched a Global Scholars Program, an interdisciplinary approach to high school education that requires international travel and project-based scholarship.
Leadership modeling and independent thinking are reflected through all three divisions of the school. Last year, a leadership initiative was introduced to the Lower Schoolers, whereby a team of leaders, including Head of School Molly King, met with the students to explore and discuss the qualities that an effective leader must have. In Middle School, girls serve as leaders in the Student Leadership Council (SLC), which is structured to spread the leadership tasks among the group levels. In Upper School, there are many natural venues for leadership, the majority of which are student initiated in the classrooms, on the fields, on the stage and in clubs and student government. As an example, for two years, Upper School students have worked with the Center for the Study of Boys’ and Girls’ Lives and graduate students from the University of Pennsylvania to complete comprehensive research on girls’ identity and social networking. This work was student generated and student centered with GA girls informing others about this important contemporary issue both within our community and beyond.
At the heart of a Greenwich Academy education are the teachers who are extraordinary not only in the mastery of their disciplines but also in their dedication to the girls, always on hand to support the students.
Education is not random. Character is not stated. It is demonstrated. At GA, academic excellence, community spirit, enduring friendships and purpose are in alignment. These are some of the many reasons why our parents, faculty and students feel a tremendous sense of pride in GA.
Experience GA for yourselves. Please call the Admission Office at 203.625.8990 for additional information. We look forward to meeting you and your daughter.
Sincerely,
Abby Katz Dean of Admission and Financial Aid |
