Dance Classes
DancersDance I/II is available to group 9-12 students during any or all trimesters as an alternative to PE.  This option is ideal for any student who would like exposure to dance including 2 weekly Modern/Jazz technique classes and an additional class to compliment the study of dance technique.  These additional classes may touch upon dance composition, improv, Pilates, yoga, partnering, dance observation, traditional dance forms, individual muscle group strengthening, dance repertory or dance history. Dance I will meet Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3-4PM and Dance II will meet Monday and Thursday 3-4PM, Tuesday 3-4:30PM and Wednesday 2:30-3:30PM.  Levels are determined by the instructor.  Usually members of Dance Corps participate in the Dance II class.  Class participation is mandatory at least one trimester per year for members of any of our performing dance companies.

Dance CorpsDance Corps
The Greenwich Academy Dance Corps is our resident dance company comprised of students from the 9th-12th grades who have been selected for their technical ability, interest in creative expression, and commitment to dance.  Once selected from an audition process each September, Dance Corps members are invited to participate for the duration of their time at the Academy.  Usually, seniors are not permitted to audition for Dance Corps.  Dance Corps members must take dance class as an alternative to P.E. at least two trimesters during the school year.  A commitment to Dance Corps includes rehearsal on Monday evenings and most Sunday afternoons to prepare for our 2 yearly concert productions. These concerts are comprised of pieces choreographed primarily by the Dance Corps members, incorporating a range of styles.  Dance Corps members also have the privilege of working with professional faculty and guest choreographers as part of our Upper School dance residency—an experience which broadens their understanding of movement and of the dance field.

Blue Stage Junior Dance Corps
Junior Dance Corps is one of the preparatory companies for the Greenwich Academy Dance Corps. Once selected from an audition process each September, JDC members are invited to participate for the duration of their time at the Academy, or they may wish to audition again for admittance to Dance Corps.  JDC is comprised of students in grades 9-12 who have exhibited a love of dance and a desire to build upon their creative and technical abilities.  JDC meets every Thursday after school in the PAC.  Members are required to participate in dance at least one trimester per year and perform in both the Winterfest and the Spring concerts.  Senior JDC members usually have the opportunity to showcase their choreography in one of two concerts.
